History of Simes Jacks
The History of Simes Bin Jacks PDF Print E-mail

Sid Simes developed his style of jacks from the goverment issue Binkley Jacks in the nineteen-sixties in Walters Minnesota.  Sid marketed these jacks into the early seventies.   They were distinguishable by thier John Deere green, flat gearbox cover, and removable gearbox bushings.  They also had Binkley steel gears, an independent idler shaft, and roller bearings.  The bottom bevel gear and thrust screw had matching flats with the jamnut.   Sid Simes jacks were rated at 29,000lbs. with a yield strength of 10,000lbs. and a recommended jacking capacity of 8,500 lbs. Sid sold his jacks into the early 90's where following his illness Allen Anderson managed the company

Allen Anderson started to produce jacks at the same site in Walters Minnesota.  By this time Holland had bought out Binkley and Anderson started replacing Binkley parts with Holland parts.  Anderson Simes are recognizable by their Holland gears, new John Deere green color, oil impregnated bushings, steel bulkheads, ball bears, and floating bevel gears. Anderson also adapted a straight tube over the splined shaft.  Anderson Jacks were rated at 26,000lbs with a yield strength of 10,000lbs. and a recommended jacking capacity of 8,000lbs.

Sioux Steel bought Simes jacks in 2000 and manufactured jacks until 2006.  Sioux Simes jacks were a forrest green color and had lower lifting stats due to poor manufacturing. They look very similar to Anderson Simes and are often confused with them.

Koyker Manufacturing took over the Simes in 2007 and manufacture them to this day.  They made several changes to the jacks including a milled "T" from the channel iron "T", removed floating bevel gear for a bolt and washer fastener on the bottom of the lift screw to the bevel gear.  Koyker Simes are painted a light yellow.  They also had to add a skid plate because of the thrust bevel gear fastener and brass bulkhead bushing.  For these reasons the jack is limited to a jacking capacity of 7,500lbs.

The Schorn Simes are redesigned and upgraded with improvements not available to Sid Simes.  They were made for more stability and bigger tanks. Many different bin jackers gave different suggestions based on trial and error engineering. They have a recommended jacking capacity of 10,00lbs. They are painted Old Cat Yellow.

Super Simes are a revamped simes based on the Schorn Simes for super tanks that the industry demanded. They are Old Cat yellow and have a recommended jacking capacity of 12,500lbs.
